review 1: I'm not a teacher (you can thank me for that), but I love to read about reading. Just as a parent, I found this to be a good source of ideas on how to pass my love of reading on to my kids. I even appreciated the charts in the appendix (I suppose because I have this great plan that one day I will be organized). And it made me think more deeply about my own reading habits. Definitely aimed at elementary teachers, but a book I enjoyed nevertheless.
review 2: I was disappointed when I finished this book... but only because it was OVER and I wanted more!!! I truly hang on Donalyn Miller's every word. I think I highlight and star about every other paragraph. As a reader, as an educator, and now as an educator of new educators entering the field, I recommend The B... moreook Whisperer and Reading in the Wild to EVERY teacher I meet, regardless off the content they teach! I will re-read and refer to this book and The Book Whisperer with my colleagues ALL YEAR and well into the future... and thanks to Donalyn, I am working on my Reading Door AND have started my "Books to Read" list for this year... and have added a few of her suggested titles to check out. If you are an educator or a parent or just a lover of all things reading and writing, this book and The Book Whisperer welcomes you and invites all of us to share our Reading Lives and encourage others, young and old to do the same! less
