review 1: meh, the bad thing about reading e-books is sometimes you don’t realize how close to the end you are... with this one I thought I had 30 pages (albeit, tiny pages) left so the ending really left me feeling underwhelmed. About 3/4 of the way in, I thought the characters didn’t seem consistent and started to tune out. Here's another case of Goodreads 5 star rating system failing me...I'd give it a 7 out of 10.
review 2: I enjoyed this book overall but found it very depressing. The near future that Edan Lepucki created is believable, her characters are not. Their motives and behavior often didn't make sense to me. So many of them are illogically distrustful of each other, and these are characters who are supposed to be friends, lovers or family. The characters... more of this future book scare me more than the world they populate. They are cold hearted, cruel, unhelpful and selfish people. None are warm, helpful, kind or selfless. less
