review 1: The good news is, Inspector Linley in the end broke up with Superintendent Arvery: I really couldn't stand her!The plot is weird, as there isn't a real murder in the book, only a series of skeletons drawn out from several closets. I still enjoyed reading it, though I was expecting someone to really get murdered before the end so there would have been a real investigation.Anyway, most characters had a happy ending, except poor Hadiyyah we're to read about in the next book. Honeslty, I find the last couple of books of the series weren't up to the previous, but still I find Elizabeth George rather good.
review 2: I agree with most of comments I've read- the length of the book, the disappointment regarding the story line, unnecessary characters, the ridiculous invo
... morelvement of Deborah, also the idea somehow inherent in the fate of Alatea, that somehow she needed redemption for being transgender and that redemption only came through death- anyone else feel that? Also the two gay characters, Ian- though dead from the start struck me as being utterly personality-less so the fact that the novel was centred around a search to find out if he had enemies and if he'd been killed seemed pointless. And the other gay character, Kavah, horrible character. Awful book, yet in some way compelling oddly enough. Oh and why did Manette and her ex not rescue that boy when they spotted him in the street, that was mind boggling for its unbelievability. less
