review 1: I ended up liking this book - it is well written but it was a bit long winded in places. It certainly celebrates science and particularly botany - I know more about moss than I knew before! A sweeping historical novel with lots of characters and settings around the world with interesting stories. I couldn't finish "Eat Pray Love" but this one was different. Not my favourite of the summer but good. Not sure why I'm not more enthusiastic.
review 2: This was a long, sometimes hard to get through, but beautifully written book. Don't pick it up if you're looking for another Eat, Pray, Love, although there is definitely a "finding yourself" ribbon woven throughout the story. But do pick it up if you want to read something beautiful that will make you ask questions ... moreand look at the world a little differently. When I read the last page, I was sad it was over, and looking back, I loved it. less
