review 1: The Broken Teaglass was one of my favorite novels, and because of that I'll read anything Emily Arsenault writes. This, however, took a bit of work. The premise was intriguing... Two adult women reconnecting to remember their childhood when they were affected by the disappearance of their babysitter. But it was slow going, cumbersome, even. The sense of confusion and vague foreboding is created well...but all in all, I was disappointed.
review 2: A compelling story that kept me up late finishing it. Arsenault is wonderful at creating believable characters and realistic dialogue. Here the narrator goes back and forth from the present day to the time she was eleven and was the last person to see her and her friend's babysitter alive before she disappeared,
... moreand to her own emotional withdrawal in high school. Now the babysitter's body has finally been discovered and the narrator finds herself journeying back to her hometown and picking up the strands of strained relationships with two of her former friends and classmates and trying to resolve the long-standing mystery. The author is able to convincingly convey the confusion, guilt, and immature thought processes of the young and adolescent as they confront two tragedies in their midst. Three and a half stars. less

It could have been a good book. The premise was interesting, but in the end it failed.
