review 1: I always enjoy Emily Barr’s books. They are what could be described as chick-lit with sinister overtones. Whilst I found that this book was rather predictable, the pace of it and the way it is divided into sections of either Liz’s story or Helen’s story - with the occasional bit about ‘Mary’ - made it quite compelling and I found I had to keep picking it up to find out what would happen next.My only slight criticism is that I felt the prologue was a bit of a giveaway as to what was coming!
review 2: Amazing book! Kept me gripped, easy to follow and the plot was not overly complicated and yet though I'd been told that it had a really unpredictable ending with a big twist, it still kept me guessing til the end - fantastic skilful bit of writing. It set... mores the scene for a possible sequel as well; which I would definitely read. I've read other books by Emily Barr which I enjoyed, but this is so different from the others I read - in a good way. Great author; can't wait to read more of her books. less
