review 1: While I think of this book as being nihilistic, especially in the beginning, it has really stayed with me since I read it a year ago. Although there seemed to be some improbable developments, what Kafka-esque novel doesn't contain things the reader finds hard to believe. The GoodReads reviews of "Literary Feline" and "Micheal Fraser" are great recaps if you want more about the plot. An excellent book about trying to find one's identity in a world that makes it difficult to stand out. A thriller and a moral examination of modern life all in one book. Excellent read.
review 2: I've read all three of Emily St. John Mandel’s books now. She’s going on my favorite author’s list. I guess we all eventually find certain writers who have the style and the pace that
... more works well for us. She continues with many of the same themes that are found in her other books. Her flawed characters are living on the fringes of society and going through major life changes. Her characters often have interesting back stories that add to the richness of the work. Her stories always move forward through introspection and examination of the relationships but there’s some action in the book also. Anton Waker is a reluctant participant in his cousins’ counterfeit Social Security and passport business. He discovers that the business might be more dangerous than he originally thought. I’m giving the book three stars but it’s really a little better than that. I liked “Last Night in Montreal” and “The Lola Quartet” a little more than this book and I gave them both four stars so I’m stuck with three stars for this one. It was a fun read though. less

Not quite a thriller about a crooked kid trying to go straight, but there's one last job...

Not as good as Station Eleven, but fun to read nonetheless.
