Artemis Fowl: The Graphic Novels
review 1: The characters shined through a little more in this 2nd graphic novel. I liked how their thoughts were expressed throughout the story. My favorite illustrations were of Holly simultaneously burning and freezing at the same time—very cool drawing—and Mulch with his back flap open. Ha ha! I have to admit that I hate the depiction of Foaly who looks more like something out of “Planet of the Apes” than a centaur. UGLY. The files before some of the chapters were well done. I particularly liked the one focused on General Scalene. His “to-do-list” was amusing:“1. Arson attack for Opal, 2. Lick own eyeballs, 3. Fleece a tourist, 4. Shed skin, 5. Backstabbing, 6. Backbiting, 7. General vindictiveness, 8. Bit of smuggling, 9. Kill Commander Roo... moret.”
review 2: Kristen SavaColfer, E., & Donkin, A. (2009). Artemis Fowl: The arctic incident : the graphic novel (Vol. 2) (G. Rigano, P. Lamanna, & C. Dickey, Illustrator). New York, NY: Disney/Hyperion Books. Genre: Fantasy (graphic novel)Awards: Best seller list of most major magazines including USA Today, New York Times, Publishers Weekly and Barnes and NobleFormat: Print -paperback (graphic novel)Selection Process: Cape May County Library, Bowker Books in Print Review:Artemis Fowl is back in this second installment of Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl series in graphic novel format. Artemis gets word that his father may be alive in Russia and he must rescue him. With the help of his ever faithful bodyguard, Butler, Artemis must first help the fairies deal with their Goblin troubles. Those familiar with the series will see characters from the first book, including Captain Holly, Foaly and Mulch Diggums, whose art renditions by Giovanni Rigano give faces to these popular characters. Artemis is admittedly starting to grow up a bit and is not as selfish as in the first book and readers of the series will find this abridged version missing much of the mom drama that occurs in the novel. Action packed with twisting and intertwining plots, this graphic novel will keep teens on the edge of their seat. Readers will enjoy the graphic novel as an artful and quicker read than its novel counterpart. Overall, audio editions are the way to go with this series, but the graphic novels are sure to be popular with fans of fairy fantasy. Recommended less

Delivered, as always. Fast-paced, good change of scene, even if a bit over the top.
