review 1: Learned a lot about World War II and the craziness going on in Germany when reading this book. Still surreal about how those things could happen. One lighter but memorable scene was where there was a ban on shopping in Jewish stores, but the German soldiers wouldn't stop an old lady from going to the store she wanted. I enjoyed getting a glimpse into Bonhoeffer's life as a Christian like his family worship time. Very interesting insights into his struggle with being a Christian and being involved in a plot to assassinate Hitler.
review 2: This is a chronological biography, so all the 'action' comes at the end of the book. I rate this book 4/5 stars based on its unvarnished portrayal Pastor Bonhoeffer's life. Understanding his upbringing and the times in which h... moree lived, helped me see just how radical his views were. Even though I knew the outcome, I found myself pulling for him and his allies along the way. This book is not for everybody, but Christians looking for real world examples of Christ-like courage should definitely spend time learning more about this incredible man. less
