Cyborgs: More Than Machines
review 1: Surprisingly enjoyed this.At first I was kind of bothered by what I was perceiving as her definition of a cyborg, but then she did clarify, and had the definition correct, which I was cool with. And really that was my only peeve with the book, so that's saying something.I liked Joe. The alpha quick to kill worked for the character since he was... a machine.I didn't hate... Chloe. That's her name.So all in all... yeah not bad, and I'll read the next one.
review 2: C791 was just OK for me...but that's because it really doesn't fit my tastes. I got it for free and I misunderstood going in. When captured Cyborg Joe makes his break for freedom, he kidnaps Chloe the lab tech assigned to him as a specimen collector. I was envisioning some sort of dark stockholmy vibe w
... moreith allot of kiss me or kill me tension. In reality Joe doesn't so much "kidnap" Chloe as he does rescue her; as in being taken by Joe is the best thing that's ever happened to her and Chloe is smart enough to know it and enjoy the ride. C791 is a light, basically fluffy feel good story with likable characters and no significant tension or angst between hero and heroine.I liked that Chloe was strong, intelligent and practical. She understood that Joe's Cyborg nature made him different from humans in terms of his experience of feelings and his command of the English language. She didn't get all bent out of shape when he expressed himself in less than human terms. For example when she asked what he intended to do with her, his response was "I intend to take you to my homeworld and keep you as a recepticle for my sexual needs". Instead of fixating on semantics, Chloe quickly concluded that no matter what came out of his mouth, his behavior showed her that he loved her and that's what counted. Joe and Chloe were very sweet together and I did enjoy their dialogue and bantering. There was allot of fairly graphic sex, very enthusiastic and consensual and thoroughly enjoyed by all, except for me because I prefer some of the darker stuff (at least in terms of reading material). The story was well written and while there was an awful lot of sex, there was some decent plot - more so towards the end. The supporting characters were engaging and likable.I can easily see how for someone with different tastes C791 could be 4 or 5 star read. less
