review 1: This is the first in a series and introduces Kate Shackleton. Set in England just after The Great War, Kate’s husband was declared missing in action, but she still has hopes of him returning. The adopted daughter of a policeman, she has been asked by a friend to find the friend’s missing father, now gone almost seven years. What Kate manages to uncover are facts that others had hoped to keep buried. A lovely cozy, this tale is bursting with local color of a time period long since gone. Peopled with delightful characters in an intriguing plot, this new series holds great promise for cozy readers.
review 2: I really enjoyed this book. I have found a new author for myself. It helps that the book is set in Leeds, my home town, so the atmosphere and surrou... morendings made me feel quite at home. It is set post WWI and round and about a mill and mill town. I enjoyed the bits of information about how the mills worked and looked. The storyline was believable and held to the end. I enjoy detective stories and will read the rest of the series now that I am hooked on this one. less
