review 1: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is reborn as a camper van! I enjoyed this fun story of a family that travels on wild adventures in their willful flying van. The book is definitely a sequel to Ian Fleming's original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and although it stands alone, I wouldn't have enjoyed it nearly as much if I hadn't just read the original. I also enjoyed the nod to Fleming's James Bond series, with a decidedly Bond-esque villain and a snazzy Aston Martin that keeps getting shot at.
review 2: Liked it more than I thought I would, but then Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is one of the first movies I every remember seeing and has always been a favorite. British humor abounds. I like the author's note on the end, regarding taking someone else's story and continuing it.
... more Would be a fun Creative Writing activity, to booktalk/ read aloud from Ian Flemings' original and this, then have students pick a novel of their choice. less
