review 1: Ignoring the multiple grammatical errors throughout the book, the story was rather bland and drawn out. The 564 or so pages could have been condensed into roughly 250 with a faster pace and it would have been more enjoyable to read. I slogged through it on a recommendation of someone else and when I got to the end realized that this is the 1st in a series (trilogy?). Guess what? THERE'S NO ENDING. Most book series have definite conclusions for each book. This one just stops. In fact, there was no real climax to the story - or maybe there was, I just slept through it.I gave this 2 stars because, technically, I've read worse.
review 2: hit and miss. this book had some good some bad. I liked the characters and for the most part the writing was good. there w... moreere some weak parts with the characters and dialogue being fully fleshed out. those are minor quibbles. The magic, vampires, monsters all were a cool twist on a fantasy setting. The big problem I had is there was no crescendo too the story. It all just kind of stayed at the same pace until it ended. nothing was resolved. It felt like she just stopped writing half way through the book. very disappointed in the ending. I wouldn't even call it a cliff hanger it just kind of stops. with that said there eI'd a strong possibility I will read the next one. less
