review 1: I think I need to rewatch the show now. This book had all the good jokes and banter. I liked the still drawings of bending, though nothing will beat the animations. The show ended on such a high note. These comics don't negate all the work that was done to defeat Fire Lord Ozai, but they do a good job of telling the post-war story. There are lots of loose ends to tie up. Also the story of how a bunch of teenagers can become real leaders, not just necessary default ones. Too bad about those oogies.
review 2: As a person who really loved Avatar: The Last Airbender - with all its awesomeness and flaws - I really enjoyed The Promise. There's no movement in the format, which may be a problem to the bending scenes, even if the bending movements are well illustrated
... more(because I'm used to the TV show, of course). However, the story in this first part is very interesting, especially the complex situation of Yu Dao. I can perfectly understand the arguments (and actions) of everybody involved, including Zuko's decision. The city's problem was even more interesting than Aang's dilemma (his promise to Zuko), maybe because we've already seen something like this?). The Promise has a great story that is greatly illustrated. I was involved and could feel the characters as in the TV show. This new format doesn't bring big problems to The Promise and may be an interesting way to continue Aang's saga. less

It's great to see the TV characters back in action, but the story set up is only so-so.
