review 1: In the New 52 Green Lantern: Sinestro, the Green Lantern powers are awarded to Sinestro, who fears that the Guardians are not leading the Green Lanterns properly. He decides that he needs to create an alliance with Hal Jordan and offer him some power in exchange for his help. Meanwhile, Jordan is trying to live without super powers, and failing miserably. He had no job and he perpetually ticks of his girlfriend, who also happens to be his employer. The comic seems to play off personality traits that were created before the New 52, and for readers who are not so familiar with these traits, the storyline did not have the impact that it was perhaps meant to have. Not knowing what kind of bad guy Sinestro has previously played, it is difficult to either be appalled or rooting ... morefor his changes. Not going to write of this series, but not my favorite.
review 2: Sinestro is one of the few DC villains who can carry an entire book on his own, and Geoff Johns gives him a great star turn in these issues from Green Lantern's "New 52" relaunch. Hal Jordan is still a vital part of the storyline, but in these issues he's Sinestro's reluctant sidekick. Their contempt for each other drives the book, and Johns skillfully portrays both their differences and the lost opportunity to overcome them. As has been seen before in the DC universe, Hal and Sinestro are a great team, and Hal could use more of Sinestro's steely certitude. The tragedy of Sinestro is not that he's evil, but that he lacks Hal's compassion, and that lack inevitably leads him down a path of destruction. less
