review 1: DELIGHTFUL!! I really enjoyed this book. Gesine's narrative and stories were so enjoyable. Perhaps one of my favorite chapters in ANY book that I have read in the last year was Chapter 7 - Ode to the Oreo. This had me laughing out loud and I have already made 2 people listen as I read it aloud for their enjoyment. I was surprised at how funny the novel turned out to be. The recipes look delicious and I look forward to trying a few.
review 2: I really enjoyed this book despite my initial reservations (the author is the sister of Sandra Bullock, who I truly don't enjoy in movies). The writing was genuine and fresh and the narrative structure was entertaining. It's hard to get the tone right in the fancy-Hollywood-lady turn country baker without being condes... morecending, but the author succeeds here. The recipes look yummy- if not occasionally a bit complex too- and I look forward to trying some out soon. less
