review 1: This was a thoroughly enjoyable continuation of the saga that began in book 1, Raven: Blood Eye. This book picked up right where the first one left off and just kept going. It was almost more like a chapter break than a break between two books, even though the first book wrapped things up pretty nicely. You definitely need to read the first book to understand everything happening in this book since the entire plot of Sons of Thunder is based on what happened in Blood Eye, but I found this book even more enjoyable. The few bits that were tough to swallow in Blood Eye weren't an issue at all in this story, the descriptive language (including the insults) were much more imaginative and varied, and the story was just as action packed as the first. This is a really excitin... moreg series and I can't wait for book 3, Odin's Wolves, to arrive so I can jump right into it. In fact, I may start with the prologue and first chapter that were included at the end of Sons of Thunder, just so I don't have to stop before my copy of Odin's Wolves gets here Wednesday =)
review 2: This book really does triumph as a sequel to Raven: Bloodeye. There's more drama, tension, suprises, battle and death as well a nice dollop of cunning in the new series of adventures experiecnes by Raven and his fellowship of Sigurd the Lucky. There's a even a bit of love thrown in for Raven but it has turned tainted and sour by the end of the book. And one character meets his ill-fated death by the hand of no norseman which is one of the many satisfying twists and turns Gile's weaves into his fine thrilling saga. All lovers of viking historical fiction should read this and take note of the amazing new young blooded talent that brings the lives of vikings once more into the fore of our imaginations. less

A little slower than I would have liked but the story hangs together well and I enjoyed.
