review 1: I enjoyed this historical romance which was set in Seattle in the ? late 1800s sometime. The ending was a bit predictable and the moralistic views of the heroine was a bit overbearing at times, but could see where she was coming from. The speliing of the name 'Fayth' bothered me a bit int hat it seemed like the modern spelling - but then again it may have been around. The pumping scene got to me --- wasn't sure if I was dealing with a seamstress, a seamstress according to the other defintion in the book or a plumber.Other than that ... enjoyable!
review 2: Sorry, I tried but I just couldn't enjoy this book. From the prologue to the date with Mr. Toad and then her meeting with Con and the subsequent long, drawn out financial problems Fayth has in town, personal
... morely, I think the story could have been summed up in far fewer chapters. Describing Fayth's day to day work, her doubts about the captain, and the captain's similar doubts makes the story seem too much like real life. Sadly, it's rather droll. Not to mention, the many questions and some unusual comparisons of sex and sewing machines. I gave this book 3 stars because while I did like the characters, there wasn't much else that I did enjoy. less
