review 1: The Juvie Three Book Review What would you do if you got sent to juvie for something someone else made you do? Or if the thing that got you into juvie in the first place was just an accident? If you had a once in a lifetime chance to get out and potentially start a new life would you take it? In the book “The Juvie Three” by Gordon Korman, Gecko Fosse, Arjay Moran, and Terence Florian get this chance. Douglas Healy who is a former juvenile delinquent has started an experimental halfway house in New York City. He is trying to help kids in juvie start to change their lives in a positive way. He picks the three lucky boys and everything starts out pretty well. The only problem is Terence who is always trying to join new gangs and make money. Gecko and Arjay hav... moree to keep close watch over Terence to make sure he doesn’t do anything stupid that could increase their chances of going back to juvie. The boys are forced to attend school, therapy, and volunteer work which makes their schedule very busy which is something they are not used to. Once they finally get used to the schedule things are starting to look up until one night when Terence sneaks out to meet up with some guy. The other boys follow and find him on the fire escape. Then, Mr. Healy shows up to find them fighting. Mr. Healy tries to patch up the argument but instead falls off the fire escape and gets knocked unconscious. The boys are shocked and have no idea what to do. They drop him off at a hospital and run. Then they make a plan to go on with their life as if Mr. Healy is still there. It seems easy at first but they come across many challenges that could send them straight back to where they came from. As Kliatt says “There’s a lot to relish here.” I couldn’t agree more there is so much action and worry going on while you’re reading it and it’s very hard to put down. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes realistic fiction with a little adventure. I think that any middle schooler and up could easily read and understand this book. What will happen to Mr. Healy? Will the boys be able to go on with their life without someone finding out the truth? Or will they get sent straight back to juvie? Read “The Juvie Three” by Gordon Korman to find out.
review 2: How could you live knowing that you’ll just rot in jail for the rest of your life? Do you know what it’s like to have a sibling getting you in real trouble all the time? What would you do if you had the opportunity to get out of juvie? Well in the book “The Juvie Three” by Gordon Korman, highschooler Gecko knows all about this. He and two other boys have been given the chance to go to a halfway home. Mr. Healy, the leader of the home has been in juvie once and wants to give three boys the opportunity to get out. Then something happens.Mr. Healy has been accidentally injured by being pushed off a fire escape. The boys would get sent back to juvie if they had no one to take care of them. So, they drop him off at the door of a hospital. Now the hospital doesn’t know who he is or where he came from because he lost his memory. Now the three boys must fend for themselves so they will not get put back in jail. The school library journal said “This novel is signature Korman” and I agree with this. I give this book a book a three star rating. I also recommend this book to any middle schooler who likes adventure. less
