review 1: This was a highly enjoyable volume both for the dramatic scenes and the transition into a new plot arc. Actually, I'm super excited because the manga is now entering into my favorite arc from the anime, so that's all the better. Now onto the specific fan-rant worthy things...SPOILEROne, the extra story. So this wasn't in the anime, but there was a mini-chapter about a Survey Corps member from a year ago who died and left behind a journal. Her last words recorded her meeting a titan and actually communicating with it with human words! Not only that, but the titan mentioned Ymir. -MAJOR SPOILER- Now I know that Ymir can change into a human, so did they know each other? The titan spoke of her almost reverently, so is Ymir a sort of leader? So much to consider...Two, th... moree trial. Okay, can we appreciate Levi for a second here? Sure, he beats the shit out of Eren, but he did it in order to save his life. I feel like it was truly a great scene, and it's also a great display of human nature when it shows how the authority figures only act out of fear. I was so proud of Eren when he chewed them out heh heh...So now they're outside the walls, and it's on to my favorite arc!
review 2: That went scarily quick. Honestly, I sped through this in about half an hour and I didn't even notice. I was so surprised when I realised I was already on volume 6.1) The art is getting a lot better. The way it's detailed in the manga is very different from the anime. I feel the characters reflect what they've been through, and their emotions are reflected better, in black and white, while the anime goes for more of a coloured approach. The detail is scratchy and messy and it perfectly matches the plot. 2) HANJI. I. LOVE. HANJI. Seriously, love her. Just to clear things up: Hanji IS a girl. She does look a bit masculine in the manga, but she is a woman, and I love her. I love her attitude, her appearance, the bond she has with other characters, the respect she has for herself, other members of her squad, TITANS- it's perfect! She's my favourite character and honestly, having an entire book dedicated to her would be AMAZING. Like, her past and how she became a member of the Scouting Legion, and how she met Levi and Erwin. She's a very compassionate person, albeit slightly crazy, but that's another one of her admirable traits.5/5, my favourite so far. It's perfect. I love it. URGH. less
