review 1: Suomeksi: Mitä he toisilleen tekivät. Jostain syystä kirjan luku käynnistyi toooosi hitaasti, vaikka se vaikuttikin hyvältä heti alusta asti. Kirjassa kerrotaan kolmen sukupolven elämistä, valheista ja peitellyistä totuuksista ja kuinka ne vaikuttavat itse kunkin elämään. Totuudet tulivat kuitenkin lopulta ilmi ja ihmiset joutuivat kohtaamaan ne ja itsensä. Jännitystä ja takaumia ja suhteiden koukeroita. Hyvä kirja, kuten Holstin aiemmatkin.
review 2: Hanne-Vibeke Holst's 425 page novel (read in Danish) takes place almost entirely in one 24-hour period in Berlin. But the core action of the book is the flashbacks experienced by Helena Tholstrup, artistic director of the Berlin Opera, as she reflects on the events in her life that brought her to t... morehat pivotal day in 2011. The reader sees that she is the product of the relationships her grandparents and her parents engaged in -- and that the "forgiveness" in the title could apply not just to Helena's actions, but to numerous decisions that had lasting but secret consequences for the family. I was impressed by Holst's mastery of the twists and turns of this long novel, and although a few of the events struck me as not completely credible I thought Undskyldingen was one of the better contemporary Danish novels that I've read. less
