review 1: Although at times it seems like nothing but historical fact and a bit dry, the beauty of the book is the language which is fairly easy to digest. The author does a great job explaining step-by-step the beginning years when America struggled to become a union. A balanced and even-paced narrative makes the reader feel as if she is right there in the middle of the action. My entire book club thoroughly enjoyed the book, which is a true feat as we have many varying reading tastes. In particular, I enjoyed becoming more familiar with the early years, and I am walking away with a much better understanding and respect for those who created our Constitution and got our federal system of government going. Careful, meticulous research and footnoting allows the reader to fully trust... more the material that is presented as the truth.

Patrick Henry was a self made patriot who stood on conviction. A great read.
