review 1: Love, love, love Hervé Tullet! This was a book that I happened on completely by chance in a bookstore in Bryn Mawr. Only after reading it to the kids and buying it, and then reading it some more, did I realize it was by a French author. He also does two-page pieces in a children's stories magazine. They feature a character named Turlututu, who interacts with the reader and the material on the page in a similar way to the dots in Press Here. Highly recommend this for kids around 2-3 years old.
review 2: Experience cause and effect in Herve Tullet's Press Here as you tap, press, turn, and shake the colorful dots to see what happens next. This book teaches readers that things do not always turn out how they are expected to. Some reactions meet their expectation,
... moreothers do not. The illustrations in this book are simple dots. They appear to have been finger-painted and are made up of the primary colors. This signifies the simplicity of the book. The reader "has the power" to change the next page by interacting with the illustrations. The words and illustrations have an enhancing interaction. They complement each other and lead the reader to one understanding. This story has a circular plot. Readers are encouraged to start over if they feel so inclined. The illustrations are even indicative of the circular plot, moving in reverse after the climax of the story. This book has the capability to hold young children's attention because they can be involved in the story instead of just hearing it! less
