review 1: The reader, in this case my daughter, had so much fun with this book. There is a big hole in the middle of the book and the reader has the opportunity to engage with the book. For example, you can put your face through the hole to complete the picture, or a stuffed animal. Some pages have text where it tells you to do something. One page has you close your eyes and try to make a bulls eye with your finger. We had lots of fun reading this book togeter.
review 2: This book goes through all kinds of situations that could revolve around a whole or circle. It invites the reader to interact with each picture, challenging them to imagine what could go in the whole. It provides suggestion to spark their imagination.THe illustrations in this book though only black
... moreand white and revolve around the hole in the middle. I think it should have won the Caldecott because of its use of the hole. The hole is the ceter point of the book and leaves what might go into it up to the imagination. This kind of illustrations are the best because no two people will have the same answer for each page. The illustrations pull the reader in which is what the illustrations should do. The front cover itself is eye catching. When you look at it you see only a half circle missing from the binding and what looks like a mans face around it. As you turn each page you begin to imagine all the possiblities of what could go in the hole.I would suggest this book for all ages because of how interactive it is and how simple the words are. less

A unique book, indeed, but not conducive to storytime.
