review 1: Welcome to Bordertown is a smart, original work as well as an excellent addition to the relatively homogenous genre of urban fantasy. Like the other Bordertown stories, this anthology addresses a number of widespread topics in wonderfully creative ways. In particular, the themes of growing up and fitting in run throughout many of the stories. Some of the best fantasy authors of the time have written for this collection, and the finished work certainly lives up to their efforts.
review 2: Everything in this fifth collection will not appear to every reader, but everyone will find something. Some are relatively light, while others are so dark you'll want to drown yourself in the Mad river; many are coming-of-age, but several are simply entertaining; all are mystic
... moreal and magical. Plots, themes, and characters are as diverse as the writing styles. More than half of the stories and poems appealed to me quite strongly; I just skipped the others. Written for teens, many of the stories somewhat obviously are intended to teach a life lesson; they lack a certain subtlety. I can't say whether that would have been quite as obvious to me when I was a teen. less

A patchy collection of fantasy short stories by different authors, all set in the same world.
