review 1: I was a bit wary of the series changing hands from author Lee Goldberg who did such a great job with the other Monk books I've read, to Hy Conrad whom I didn't know as an author. Not to be all Monk-like, but I feared change!Well, there was no need for that fear- the transition from author to author went smoothly (and that's no wonder, considering both Goldberg and Conrad were writers for the Monk show :) ). I also am pleased to report that new characters Goldberg had created for the book series got to continue on in Conrad's version. We get to see a lot of Monk's girlfriend Ellen in this book, and I just love her as a character so I was very pleased to see she is still around.The friendship/bond between her and Natalie working together to solve a case where their self-he... morelp guru commits suicide (or is it murder!) is some great stuff. And Monk having to face one of his many fears - clowns- is just hilarious. Looking forward to the next instalment in this great series.
review 2: This is the first book by Hy Conrad, who also wrote several episodes for the television series.This book is different than those written by Lee Goldberg, as one should expect. Natalie Teeger books a a weekend at a self help workshop, and the host seems to commit suicide right in front of everybody. Meanwhile, a party clown is murdered by poison money. Monk has to overcome his usual phobias, and a crumbling relationship with his girlfriend, while Teeger attempt to self actualize.I don't think that's it's quite as good as some of Goldberg's work, but it's still pretty good. less
