review 1: I read this book about a year ago and was not as impressed with it as I was upon rereading it now. This time around, I really can't see any reason to dock it points.Pros: (SPOILERS BELOW)-epic space battles-author mostly sticks to his guns about the physical universe he's created. There is a lot of consistency, though I did find myself wondering how the Slan could be among the most-feared warriors of the Sh'daar if they don't have a concept of total war.-author thinks about things in all kinds of crazy new ways, like how the Slan do not have a concept of space travel, or how to use nano-disassemblers in combat.Cons:-same as all other books in the series: characters and dialogue mostly crap. There is slight improvement from the earlier books in the series, though, and if yo... moreu haven't caught on to the fact that this truly is hard sci-fi and thus you shouldn't weight such problems heavily, you're reading the wrong series.
review 2: This is the fourth book in the Star Carrier series, but it is more of a first book in a new trilogy, taking place 20 years after the third book.As in the other books, the over-all story is enticing and appealing. I really enjoy how the author manages to mix military battles with great sci-fi and always keep the pace even and unrelenting. However, this book is by far the worst of the four. What I have most trouble with is the constant and really insistent repeating of the same things over and over again. Alright, it has been a year since I read book three so repeating the fundamentals of the physics/science once, or maybe twice, is OK. But not once every chapter!! And it is not just events and background from the previous books, it is events in the previous chapters!! Come on! I just read about it! This kind of repeating happens so often so it becomes annoying. The other thing I did not like was that in this particular book, the author appears to be attempting to broach the subject of religion. Which is clumsily done. I don't get the feeling that he is trying to provoke thoughts in the reader, but rather trying to convey a certain belief, which, pun intended, goes against the White Covenant. These two issues lowers the grade from me, because it is not what I expect from an otherwise superb author. They are the reason why I think the book is the poorest written in the series. But, still, it is a great story and a must-read if you have read the previous books. less

Detta är inte en särskilt bra uppföljare, det borde ha fått bli endast en trilogi.
