Sherlock Holmes Graphic Novels Adaptation
review 1: 4.5This was very, very good. It was colorful, interesting, and all of the characters were drawn deliberately and with an eye towards recounting the original. The backstories presented were on point, and the chapter breakup a were a useful literary tool. Sherlock is not rolling over in his grave. I would be pleased to use this in a classroom setting, in the way Eisner imagined to use graphic novels to teach. Fans of classic literature may also enjoy this, and graphic novel fans should pick it up. Strongly recommended.
review 2: "There’s the scarlet thread of murder running through the colourless skin of life, and our duty is to unravel it, and isolate it, and expose every inch of it." - Sherlock HolmesA Study in Scarlet is the first Sherlock Holmes story writt
... moreen by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Doctor John Watson, recently having returned home after the war and illness, is in need of a flatmate due to his limited monetary resources. Upon meeting Holmes, the detective quickly deduces from where and what war Watson as returned. Watson is astonished by Holmes skills and allows the reader a taste of what is to come in future stories. This is one of my favorite Holmes stories, an "origin story" as it were where Watson and Holmes meet for the first time and end up sharing the flat at 221B Baker street. Through Watson's perspective, the reader is able to witness Holmes in action as well as the reaction of those he comes in contact. Both Lestrade and Gregson are in this story, as well as Mrs. Hudson of course. The artwork for this version of A Study in Scarlet is good, as it is in others I've read by Ian Edington. I really like having this option to re-read Holmes stories. I just wish he had done them all. For those who've seen 'A Study in Pink' (BBC's Sherlock), I highly recommend you read this story. You will be able to see how Moffat was able to appropriately adapted the story, make it current and yet stay true to Doyle's original idea. One word: Rache. less
