review 1: When Ava Lee's uncle called her she knew they had a new job. A friend of Her uncle's from Wuchan had been bilked of $50 million in a land deal in Kelowna and their job was to find the perpetrator and recover the money for a third of the amount. The victim's company was based in Manila but the victimized official was a younger brother of her uncle's friend who operated out of Vancouver. Ava discovers that the land deal was far more nefarious involving illegal gambling and international money complicated by an earlier personal vendetta against Ava and a British politician.
review 2: The Disciple of Las Vegas, as a sequel is almost as strong as the first one. Exciting and intense page-turner. I was absorbed into the story, waiting to figure out what Ava Lee w
... moreould do next in her investigation. Its impressive to see how the twists and turns of this story takes her through all these places and how she solves the issues. We see a bit more of her life every time. I just can't get past the need to use all the product placement and I can't help to wonder if its just to describe the type of person she is or whether its just additional detail. Still, a very good read. Can't wait to read the next one! less

Plodding and tedious... Most definitely not "a thriller in the tradition of Ian Fleming."
