review 1: I read a lot of books in this genre. The writing is not always stellar. The endings are sometimes contrived. The happy couple solves their problems and become engaged just in time for the book to end, but way faster than would be advisable in real life. This book was better paced than most and the ending far more realistic, given that the two main characters were old enough and had been through enough to be sure of what they wanted in a relationship. Didn't hurt that the male lead was pretty much the perfect guy even if I did want to tell him to stop being so snobby in the beginning. I wanted to rate this book a bit higher, especially since the last three I read from this publisher made me want to swear them off forever, but after you've read To Kill A Mockingbird, it's ha... morerd to give a romance book more than three stars. (Sorry.) I thought the cover art left a lot to be desired, but it usually does with this line. I suppose that's beside the point.
review 2: "Seaside Blessings" by Irene Hannon was a book I just couldn't put down for there was too much "What happened?" questions running through my mind. In no way would I list this book as a suspense or mystery book but there was just enough information withheld until near the end to keep me reading.Though classified as Christian, and there is a certain Christian feel to it, the book is not preachy. There is talk of God's forgiveness but I didn't find it preachy, but more of a simple fact and was discussed only briefly, but it was enough.A story of forgiveness and second chances, which is what everyone needs sometimes. Here there are two, what some would call major, incidents where the person or person involved need to work through to find their forgiveness and second chance. Are the hurdles going to be overcome for the second chance since forgiveness is always there for the asking?I am becoming a fan of Ms. Hannon's not mystery/suspense books that for sure and look forward to reading more about Starfish Bay if there are more to the series. less
