review 1: Christine Turner, a widow, leaves the bright lights of the city for a small town, Oak Hill, MO, where she plans on starting an organic farm. However, she crashes her truck and is rescued by widower Dale Lewis, the local sheriff. His daughter becomes enamored of independent Christine and sparks fly between the two. There's an excellent subplot about domestic violence here, as a minor character leaves her abusive husband with Christine's help. Christine herself is a victim of emotional and psychological abuse from Jack, who is one of the most sadistic villains I've seen in these books. He tells her he doesn't love her, locks her in a closet knowing that she's claustrophobic, and finally has his pal, a corrupt sheriff in the city strip search her after charging her with a ... morefraudulent DUI. That Christine survives all this and shares this with Dale (in a very tender, loving scene) is impressive. We all have had experiences that cause us to judge others based on how we've been treated; this leads to prejudice. There are also plot points based on childhood abuse, which Dale's first wife never overcame. The truth of the statement "Love never fails" from First Corinthians is shown in the characters and how they interact with each other. A deeply satisfying read.
review 2: plot the widowed sherrif's daughter wanted just one thing a mom but the lady she'd set her sights on didn't cconsider herself mother or wife material christine turner couldn't abide her atraction to handsome lawman dale lewis she'd move to oak hill for a fresh start but no matter how much she wanted it she didn't believe a family was in god's plan for her life dale decreed it a crime for such a lovely kind woman to hide away on her farm especially when he wanted to make his daughter's dream and christine come true less
