review 1: I missed Krasnow when she spoke at Goucher, but was interested in the book. And I think there's useful advice and information in here, about maintaining your own personality and identity in marriage, but I was also frustrated by the gender essentialism she frequently expressed. I wish that, every time she used expressions like 'innate' or 'hard wired' she'd included a specific citation indicating what she based the statement on.
review 2: I gave up on this book after 3 or so chapters. Not my bag at all. While I agree that separate passions make for happy people and a healthy marriage, I reject the idea that I can't rely on my husband to make me happy, that marriage is something that must be survived and that raising young children is a terrible, stressful stag
... moree of life. My husband and I are 14 years in, and I'm going to continue to trust our formula for success and happiness. less
