review 1: Iris Krasnow explores what it takes to make long-lasting marriages tick. She interviews women from all walks of life and numerous backgrounds, sharing their stories in short vignettes throughout the book. Ultimately, she identifies the correct problem (women can't and shouldn't look to their husbands for happiness in marriage) but proposes the wrong solution (they should look to themselves, to spending summers apart, to hobbies and self-development, work, men friends, women friends, and even affairs to find what they lack). As I read the book, I felt increasingly sad that so many women are committed to the idea of a long marriage while not in the end being committed to their actual husbands. The biblical solution is to look to God to fulfill what no human--not a husband, a... more friend, or anyone--can fulfill. This book shed new light on marriage statistics--long marriages don't necessarily mean happy or committed people. Is the ideal of your husband being your best friend really so far-fetched? Only if you're trying to achieve the goal without Christ.
review 2: This book was not what I was expecting it to be. I started out really liking it and agreed with the viewpoints of how we all need marriage and it's benefits in our lives. But by the end, I was disappointed with the stories of how some women "survive" their marriages (not really making marriages work). I was shocked by the stories of women having affairs to strengthen their marriage and appalled by the story of one couple who strengthen their marriage by "swinging". To each it's own. less

One of the very few books I couldn't even finish. I had to quit half way through.

Had a great deal of potential but came off a bit preachy instead.
