review 1: 3-1/2 stars. As is typical of my reads from this author, I enjoyed much of the book overall, but there was a lot of repetition of a detail I found too jarringly wrong, that kept pulling me out of the story. Katrina is a supermodel, with an amazing body that she shows off in swimsuit shoots. No way does it seem believable to me that she is going to eat as many hot dogs and pizza as she does, or drink as much as she does. She would have to be much more disciplined about her food/ alcohol intake, and she's have to be working out a lot (she never works out in this book). I can't ignore the realities of what somebody's job entails, and Burton seems to make this kind of mistake a lot.Other than that, I enjoyed this book. Grant is a lovely man, just pushy enough to get Katrina to... more change her ways (if he weren't pushy, she wouldn't change out of her comfort zone). Katrina has sacrificed most of her life to take care of her siblings, and it is so wonderful to watch her open up to the possibility that there is a life of love for her too.
review 2: This was a new to me author. I know, I know- but Jaci Burton has been around a long time you say. Yeah I know I get it- shame on me!! Well shame on me for sure- because I super enjoyed this book!!! And her covers- JEEZ they are smoking hot. I love a good sports themed romance, and this one is super steamy. Grant Cassidy is a professional quarterback, who plays for the St Louis Traders. Grant meets model Katrina Korsova on a photo shoot. From the beginning it seems Grant is enchanted- even when Katrina kind of gives him the cold shoulder. He is a little cocky, but if I am honest- it's kind of a quality I liked about him. Because it didn't come off as too cocky- more of like an air of confidence about him. Katrina wants nothing to do with Grant, even if she does feel something from working with him. Katrina is not the typical stuck up model stereotype everyone thinks of. She actually has a brain, is very smart and will do anything for her younger siblings- whom she is basically raising. Everything she does is for them, and she doesn't have the time, much less the care- to start a relationship with anyone, especially a playboy like Grant. Grant wants to show Katrina that she can have both the structure and the spontaneity of a relationship, and to lighten up and enjoy her life. I loved this aspect of the story. He wanted her to break out of her comfort zone and really have a good time doing it. Jaci has written a well-developed story, with relatable characters and a realistic plot. And I love Grant's family! I really hope we have more in store with Grant's three brothers- because they are athletes too and would make great additions to the Play by Play series! less
