review 1: In truth, I hated reading this book. Emily was a complacent spineless pushover and Anton was an infuriatingly misogynistic bully. The beginning was not that bad and had promise but I could not get past how Emily just folded every single time Anton laid so much as a finger on her. Anton continued to seduce her as he told her to be a "good wife" and play hostess. The demeaning way he treated her and his possessiveness made me hate him. Emily I did not hate so much, I'm not stupid and I know she didn't have much of a choice but she was just so weak! I know in the end the reader is supposed to forgive Anton and make excuses for him by saying he had a rough childhood and he really did it out of love but I wasn't convinced. In the end I still hated him and hated the way Emily ju... morest instantly forgave him after he "came to her rescue". I have nothing against this author and even think she is rather good, but this book made my blood boil to the point where it was not a pleasurable read.
review 2: This was a dnf for me. It started out interesting with the different cultures thrown in but there was just too much scheming too many related half mistresses throughout the hero's family, illegitimate children who belonged to different families, etc. It was just too much to follow. The hero was dead set on a revenge marriage because the heroine's father didn't claim his sister who was born from an affair from his mother and her father. And I think she committed suicide? So he decides to marry her and seduce her to get her father's name and take over her company and so on and so forth. The heroine falls for the hero in like two days and they get together. I didn't feel anything for the characters (does disgust count?) so I didn't feel like reading on because both characters were pretty annoying. Too much drama for me. less
