review 1: I enjoyed reading the book as I took away different things opposed to the other reviewers. I looked at the book as a journal of a girl growing up during the turn of the century. She keeps tab of time by seasons, seasonal events, and birthdays so it made it easy to ready from a diary format. Although others found nothing big plot wise, I liked the struggle of her wanting to be different. It captured me and I tried my best to place myself and her shoes which left me with frustrated feelings. I went three stars instead of four because some parts of the book dragged on.
review 2: 'One day I would have all the books in the world, shelves and shelves of them. I would live my life in a tower of books. I would read all day long and eat peaches. And if any young knig
... morehts in armor dared to come calling on their white charges and plead with me to let down my hair, I would pelt them with peach pits until they went home," vows the brilliantly funny protagonist of this thoroughly charming novel when denied 'The Origin of the Species' by the local librarian of her small, turn-of-the-century Texas town. I loved this book. less

A great blend of science and storytelling! A bit slow for my taste though.
