Hetty Feather
review 1: London, 1876 and Hetty Feather is just a tiny baby when her mother leaves her at the Foundling Hospital. The Hospital cares for abandoned children - but Hetty must first live with a foster family until she is big enough to go to school. Life in the countryside is hard but with her 'brothers' Jem and Gideon, she helps in the fields and plays imaginary games. Together they sneak off to visit the travelling circus and Hetty is mesmerised by the show, especially Madame Adeline and her performing horses. But Hetty's happiness is threatened once more when she is returned to the Foundling Hospital. The new life of awful uniforms and terrible food is a struggle for her. But now she has the chance to find her real mother. Could she really be the wonderful Madame Adeline? Or will He... moretty find the truth is even more surprising?
review 2: The book “Hetty Feather” by Jacqueline Wilsons is a fun and interesting book to read for children and adults of all ages. The story takes place in the 1700s in England, and it is about a foundling named Hetty Feather with flaming red hear and a bad temper. As a baby she is brought to a foster home in the country where she lives with a lot of brothers and sisters, four of the siblings are also foundlings, the other children are the parents own kids. In the country her dear big brother Jem takes good care of her and even takes her to a circus. He cries a lot when Hetty leaves for the Foundling hospital at the age of five and promises to marry her when she comes back. Hetty hates the hospital where she is thought to read, do basic sums and how to be a servant. She does very well in her classes and s very smart. Together with her friends Ida the cook and Polly she tries to get through it, but when Polly leaves Hetty has to try to fight her bullies herself, which is hard. On the day the foundlings go on a field trip, Hetty runs away. When she is brought back by an author named Ms. Smith, who supports Hetty in writing, Ida faints, (STOP NOW IF YOU DONT WANT SPOILERS!) and later tells Hetty she is her mother. less
