review 1: Is this the last Maisie?? This case seems to bring all her past cases to a central point in Maisie's mind & she determines to close up shop and go off alone to travel and find herself. The mystery solution was fairly obvious, at least toward the end but the trip was worth it. Very engaging with lots of background on Indian immigrant culture and the place of women. I really enjoyed this one and hope we get to follow Maisie in her travels. I always liked the psychologist part of her jobs more than the investigations.

The place she is drawn to is India and, coincidentally, she is asked to ... moreinvestigate the murder in London of an Indian woman, Usha Pramal. One of the interesting themes of the book deals with a number of cross-cultural marriages that Maisie encounters that took place in the social disruption following WWI. However, the main theme is, as the title reveals, leaving everything behind and Maisie’s endless reflection and contemplation really slow down the story. less
