review 1: I thought that the book Peace, Locomotion was a fascinating read. If I was to rate this novel, I would give it eight and a half out of ten. At times this book got very emotional when Lonnie would always look back at his childhood and how happy his whole family was. There were times when I got a little emotional myself. It’s really sad to think that he is separated from Lily. I mean, just think if you were separated from a family member that you care so much about. The way Lonnie stays in touch with Lily is through letters. That’s what the whole book is, the letters that Lonnie writes to Lily. There are no chapters or anything, just the letters that talk about his life. I think that’s a bit different, but that’s kind of what makes this book unique. I would recommen... mored this novel for people that want an interesting and remarkable read.
review 2: “Peace, Locomotion” is a book written by author Jacqueline Woodson. It is the sequel to “Locomotion” also written by Ms. Woodson. “Peace, Locomotion” is a series of letters written from Lonnie (Locomotion) to his sister Lilli.I really liked “Locomotion.” Because I was so impressed by that book, I wanted to read “Peace, Locomotion.” I have to say the first few letters in the book did not make a favorable impression on me. I found the writing to be a little tedious. However, the book picked up pace with the letter on page 61. Lonnie writes to Lilli about their visit together. He remarks at how grown up she is and that she calls her foster mother “mama.” He begins to think about his relationship with Ms. Edna and whether or not he is comfortable referring to Ms. Edna and her sons as family. I think this is a powerful letter and very well written. The characters are the same characters that were in “Locomotion” with the exception of Ms. Cooper. Ms. Cooper is Lonnie’s teacher at the beginning of the year. When Lonnie tells Ms. Cooper he is a poet she responds by asking have you published any books yet and when he responds no she says, “Until you publish a book, you’re not a poet, you’re an aspiring poet Lonnie.” This can be so disheartening for anyone to hear, particularly a child. I thought this was an example of great writing by Ms. Woodson. There is an authenticity that can connect with the reader.Overall, I enjoyed “Peace, Locomotion.” I would recommend teachers include it in their reading curriculum. It can be used to aid in facilitating a writing assignment or for making predictions or to discuss point of view. less
