review 1: This Is The Rope is a fictional story. It is a story of the great migration. The great migration was when African Americans in the South moved up North for better opportunities such as jobs and education. The rope in the book symbolizes hope moving to a different place. The rope in the book moves with the main character in the book. The rope has been around for three generations. It talks about how the rope was used for the different purpose. For example, to tie things while moving and to dry flowers. It can also mean rope was useful anywhere it was. The book is appropriate for elementary leveled students. The illustrations in the book correspond and enhance the text. The lifestyle of characters is genuine and complex because it is from our history during great migration t... moreime. review 2: This Is the Rope is a great story for children’s ages 5 to 8. It is by Newbery Honor–winning author Jacqueline Woodson and Coretta Scott King Award–winning illustrator James Ransome. This is a story about a family’s northbound journey during the Great Migration. It starts with a little girl who finds a rope under a tree one summer in South Carolina. This rope is passed down through three generations throughout the book and is used for many different things. Such as, a jump rope, a way to tie suitcases onto a car for the move to New York City or even a family reunion where the little girl who found the rope is now a grandmother. This story really depicts the story of the Great Migration through the life journey of this little girl. less
