review 1: With this book, now two of my college gaming buddies are published novelists (the other is Jenna Black). This is an interesting, well-constructed story about a research station under the ice of a moon in another star system, where humans are studying an intelligent aquatic race, and having to abide by the restrictions placed on them by another, older star-faring species. An interesting dynamic, and a well-structured plot. Some elements could stand to be a bit more fleshed out, but overall a fine first novel.
review 2: It took me a little bit to get into this one, but probably about a quarter of the way through I found myself hooked! I loved how the different alien species are described, and while I found it difficult at first to constantly cycle from human to I
... morelmataran to Sholan perspective every page or two, once the story got going I kind of couldn't wait to find out what would happen next for each group. And I like how it ends--how through a sort of war, three different species find peace, at least with each other as individuals. This actually felt pretty realistic, as well as the way it could be so easy to misunderstand the actions of species so different from your own. Anyway, I would definitely love to read more about all involved here--especially the Ilmatarans! I look forward to seeing what Cambias does next. less
