review 1: I didn't enjoy this as much as the first one, but I think that may have been because I had just been reading several books from Game of Thrones. It is probably difficult for a young adult novel to live up to that level of action and excitement. My 10 year old son did thoroughly enjoy this book so I am giving the second book in the Jake Ransom series a thumbs up. Essentially this is the first book set amongst Egyptian stuff, but it has some good peril and action sequences.
review 2: Jake Ransom and the Howling Sphinx by James Rollins-4.5/5 is a very fitting sequel! Having enjoyed the first novel of this series I quickly read the second. The novel moves very well as do all of Rollins' novel in my opinion,and takes the reader on a thrilling adventure that has l... moreots of action, while also incorporates science, history, technology, and beautiful locations. Being a fan of the Egyptian Culture I was also very drawn to the atmosphere of the novel. Jake and Kady Ransom are once again transported to an unfamiliar time and place but this time are joined by several friends from the previous novel. The gang is instantly under attack right from the start of this journey. With many questions being answered, many more are asked and Jake and friends wonder how, why, and what led them to this specific destinations. What does The Skull King really want, and will/can he be stopped?? A wonderful novel for both readers young and old, and also a very enjoyable series. Looking forward to the next installment!! less
