review 1: Another short story from James Rollins this time with Seichan a former member of the Guild and a future member of Sigma. Again very, very short but I still really enjoyed it, though I'd prefer it a litter bit longer, so there'd be more space for each character and for details. For this I'll lower my rating by 1*.As I said I liked the story. Not just the fight with the cult, but also the exchange between Seichan and the scientist and the run through the catacombs of Paris (I have to say on one hand it's kind of odd and on the other also cool that people can freely go and explore the catacombs, but I really wouldn't want to get lost there). I liked the characters and the details about them (like the boys tattoo, I'm quite a fan of tattoo art and I really fancy the idea of a ... moremap on a body-part). I also like Rollins' sense for details, but thanks to it length there are not many, which is really pity, it would make a great book.Another thing what a like, this time about the writer himself, is how he analyses his own work just for the reader. Sure some things are well-known but others aren't and a like to read about it and confirm it's true. Even though it such a banality as how is the trunk of a Peugot really being open. It' really nothing but he mentions it nevertheless and that's something I like about MR Rollins.
review 2: WOW ! What a fabulous talent to be able to pack so much into a short story...and further, to make that short story a fully satisfying story all on its own, that ALSO makes me want to read more, so much more ! James Rollins is a new author to me - I will definitely be reading more ! I have the worst or greatest (depending on how you look at it) urge to put all my other books on hold to purchase The Devil Colony – The Skeleton Key is one of those books that may very well draw me away from my reading goals – and that is to finish a series I’m reading and all the books I haven’t yet read on my Kobo and those that are in paperback sitting on my headboard.....oh, Mr. Rollins, I wish I had left THIS little story until the last one ! less
