review 1: Jake and his sister Kady are the children of well known Mayan archaeologists who disappeared on one of their expeditions. Jake wants nothing more than to follow in his father's footsteps, while it seems Kady just wants to forget the pain in her past and be a normal teenager. When the children get invited to London to view an exhibit of their parents work, strange events take place. The children find themselves transported not only away from London to a place where various ancient civilizations all coexist together but also into the midst of a war with the Skull King. Jake is a very stalwart character who loves books and archaeology. Kady starts off as just being interested in clothes and makeup, but she grows satisfyingly as a character. My only complaint is that the initi... moreal aspects of the time displacement were rather ludicrous and implausible (Roman soldiers coexisting with Mayan soldiers and dinosaurs all in the same place?). However, it was explained at the very end of the book, and the explanation, though very slow in coming and perhaps not in the best spot within the story, helped the rest of the plot make sense. Children will love the adventure in this book, and find it a very interesting read. -Miss JessicaThis title is available from PPLC in both print and audio format HERE(less)
review 2: Wowza! I didn't expect any of what I found in this book. I read it on vacation, having picked it up at a library giveaway a month earlier and having not yet opened the book. What I found was COMPLETELY different from what I expected. I had no idea that the concept or the setting of the novel would have been so complex; I expected something a little more suited for the grade five readers I expected it to be for. But no, I really enjoyed it, and, once I got back, immediately went hunting for the sequel. I loved every single minute of the novel, and yes, I had to read it two more times to process it. That was a good novel. less

This book has been a delusion: this is not an adventure story, just a teen fantasy story.

RA note: A possible series for those who like the Percy Jackson books.
