review 1: The Georges and the Jewels by Jane Smiley is a great book about a girl named Abby Lovitt and her life on her family ranch. They buy low priced horses, train them, make them look good, then make a profit off of them as fast as they can. As a result, they name the males George and the females Jewel. In the story, Abby, a very skilled rider, comes upon Ornery George. He does what he wants to and Abby lets him. One day, a man named Jim Jarrow comes along and helps Abby and her father with Ornery George. I recommend this book to anyone that loves animals and problem solving books.
review 2: By DaisyI read this as its UK version, Nobody's Horse, because I loved the title. As soon as I opened it, it just got better and better! I am now reading 'Mystery Horse' (not s... moreure of the US title) and enjoying it very much! This makes such a change from all those girly I-love-ponies-they're-so-cute books! Very in-depth storytelling of not only horses, but 1960s life and religion as well. less
