review 1: This is a fun series. I enjoy the sense of humour (despite initially being unsure about it). This book, and a very good addition to the story, giving us more background and development of the characters and their relationships.That being said, this takes place right in the middle of the AvX, Phoenix Force debacle/Event. This means we see exactly why Marvel's mega-Events bug me. True, I read the AvX mini-series, but even then it was a little jarring to see the story and the characters' place within it jump around so much.Nevertheless, a good book. I'll be reading the next volume very soon.
review 2: The Avengers vs. X-Men crossover hits home in this third volume of Wolverine and his X-Men students. Captain America has stopped by to recruit Beast and Wolverine to... more combat the Phoenix threat headed towards Earth, while Cyclops drops by to ask for assistance on Utopia from Angel and Iceman. Loyalties splinter when Logan finds the mutant messiah Hope first, attempting to find a way to solve the AvX brawl before it gets worse. The book concludes with a look at Warbird's past, with Gladiator arriving to remove his son from the conflict. The massive crossover does this book a disservice, slaving it to a Marvel event rather than the organic storytelling Jason Aaron has been building since issue one. The solo look at Warbird, which examines beautiful nature versus hardcore nurture is the gem of this particular collection. Check it out for the complete AvX picture, but remember those early lessons from earlier arcs for your upcoming pop quiz. less
