Wolverine and the X-Men
review 1: Nice modern X-men tale. Wolverine sees that some of his students are at risk of straying from the school, so he takes them to the Savage Land for a survival exercise to bring the group together. In true teen fashion, the kids squabble their way through dinosaur attacks and old drama. But things turn more serious when Wolverine's time-traveling half brother shows up, incapacitating the hero with the goal of basically showing the kids that their headsman is a jerk.Toward that end, he transports cavemen, cattle rustlers and robots to the Savage Land, reckoning that a good scrap will show the group the light--and paint him in a better light than his brother. Things go wrong, of course, and writer Jason Aaron revels in the absurdity of the situation, while still treating the co... morere conflict as an occasion for character growth. It's not an arc for the ages, but I enjoyed the dialogue and the disparate personalities coming together. Wolverine's brother was a new character for me, and I wasn't too drawn to his insecurities, but the continuity isn't too intrusive. Overall, the story is light, with plenty of humor and some consequences, particularly for one student who needed a new direction. A nice read for X-men fans (and thankfully unconnected to any other event).Read digital issues.
review 2: Again, I have subtracted one star for the absence of Chris Bacchalo;-(That being said, this story featured Dog (Wolverine's half-brother whom I was not familiar with) and that took a little getting used to. The class went to the Savage Land which was also a little wacky, but as always Jason Aaron really nailed with his excellent ability to write characters.I suppose ultimately that's why I've stuck with this title even though the art is less than awesome. Well, that and I'm completely obsessed with Idie and Broo:-! less

This series is fun and weird, but it kind of lacks a full purpose.
