review 1: While this book was better than the second one, more action-driven and quite interesting in terms of character and most of all background development, there were a few things that just really annoyed me. One being Tate's incredible stubborn delusion that he seems to have developed as a result of turning into a vampire because that didn't seem to be such an extremely broadcasted trait before. Though the man has a point when he tells Cat that in total she hasn't been dating Bones for very long and doesn't know shit about him.The other thing that annoyed me is how overly romanticised Bones sometimes is. Come on, a promiscuous and deadly vampire but all of a sudden, he wanted to marry Cat from the moment he met her? It's a little hard to swallow, not even taking into account t... morehe fact that marriage between vampires and humans (at the very first moment he met her, he should not have been aware she was a half-breed and would live longer) is a little silly, especially since he apparently never intended to change her into a vampire against his will. Seriously..Then there was the whole suicide issue... since when is a strong heroine prone to just killing herself on a whim? Granted, she thought the love of her life was dead, but, how about the first thought being "I don't believe it until I see it?". Cat is such a pain in many other respects in terms of not agreeing to another's rule, wanting to do everything herself and her own way - why on earth would she act completely contrary to her usual self? Why on earth would she just take at face value when someone else tells her that Bones is dead rather than going out to find out the truth?Interesting plot for sure, and the action as well as Mencheres' background mostly made up for these nuisances. And big heads up for Vlad - I like that character, as odd as the vampire may be.
review 2: This series is getting better and better. I adored this novel. This time we have a new story line and a new villain(always enjoyable) while revealing more of the vampire world in which the author has created. Which I have come to greatly enjoy. It is getting detailed and inventive while maintaining some good old fashioned vampire lore with new insights of her own. Well done!! Bones is a great leading man and Cat is not a simpering female. The supporting cast of characters are varied and likable and the dialogue is witty. Highly recommend. less
