review 1: Lean UX = Check your ego at the door! This book simplifies a very complicated collaborative framework. Lean UX is a process and a mindset that makes good sense for its many efficiencies. That said, it seems like it would take significant adjustment and continual self-checking to make this process work to its full advantage. It is not trivial to 1) trust teammates to give feedback that is constructive rather than confrontational and defensive, 2) cultivate the self-confidence necessary to constantly put one's ideas on the line and be open to showing that they don't work, and 3) grapple with the limits of your knowledge in an effort to communicate with your peers and learn from your mistakes. These are really hard skills because you have to check your ego at the door fo... morer each of them. I think it takes an incredible amount of "feeling solid" with yourself to work in this way. For that reason, I think that Lean UX is not only a process and management tool, but also a mechanism for personal growth. And---if you don't have good leadership also willing to model the "check your ego at the door" mentality, then I think the Lean UX process will break down entirely. The importance of trust amongst members of the team cannot be overstated.
review 2: Lean UX is the most misunderstood as well as most difficult philosophy (esp. in the service industry) to implement. Although a good starting point on Lean UX the book leaves lots of questions unanswered. It relies heavily on an ideal scenario and top driven implementation approach that may require a complete organizational change.Nevertheless, its a good read esp. to keep the faff, at distance, around Lean UX, which many claim to know and some even claim to be experts. less
