review 1: Very good opening story for a VERY intriguing comic. While not all of the characters and plots feel completely original in this post-apocalyptic setting, Jeff Lemire does an excellent job of making you care about Gus and what will happen to him as his journey from home continues. Lemire's art is stunningly abstract and yet gorgeous in its weirdness. Some of the panel layouts are just fantastic. Solid start to what seems to be a comic with great potential.
review 2: I've heard so many good things about this series that I found myself a little disappointed. Underwhelmed. The artwork has a certain rough charm but the actual story just feels like another generic post-apocalyptic tale. The handle this time is the animal/human hybrid children. There's not really ... moremuch mystery or surprise here and I found the inevitable cliffhanger ending rather flat.Still, there's charm and some tender moments and with all the positive praise I think I'll read on. Hopefully it will pick up. less
